Price Guide - September 2006
The following prices are to be taken only as a guide. I do not
charge for the preparation of a written estimate, but do
however charge for expenses incurred such as travel. Each
estimate is prepared on an individual basis following a
preliminary inspection of the object. If upon closer inspection
the object requires significantly more work than originally
estimated, this will only be carried out following consultation
with the client.
If required, I can arrange insurance for any object for the
entire period in trust, including during transportation.
This is normally on an at cost basis.
My work is normally accompanied by a simple report giving an
overview of work carried out. If however a more detailed report
isrequired, supported by photography and a description of the
movement, this can be carried out at a 10% surcharge.
Under
normal circumstances, packing and packing materials are
included in any estimate. If however I feel an object requires
additional packing or the manufacture of bespoke packing
cases, an estimate will be supplied.
Before accepting an object into trust, I will make a preliminary
photographic record of its condition and issue a receipt.
I welcome clients to visit my studio; this is however strictly
by appointment only.
Under normal circumstances I will not
undertake a 'part job' e.g. fitting only a new mainspring. The
exception being the preventive measure of checking and
'topping-up' the lubrication of a clock that is already in good
working order.
I am registered for VAT and therefore all my invoices are
subject to VAT @ 17.5%.
I will not undertake any work I feel
contravenes reasonable ethical or conservation practice.
Other than consumables, any part removed from an object
during treatment will normally be returned to the client.
Wherever practicable, any new part fitted will be discretely
stamped with mark of the manufacturer and the date of
manufacture.
If any work is to be sub-contracted, the client will normally be
informed beforehand.
I strongly recommend that I deliver and
set-up any clock following an overhaul; particularly those
controlled by a pendulum. I am however happy for customers
to make an appointment to bring their own clocks to my
studio.

The guide prices below are to service the clock movement only.
This usually includes:
Complete disassembly of the movement.
Cleaning (but not refinishing) all movement parts to remove
dirt and old lubricants etc.
Conservative bushing of any worn
pivot holes and associated re-finishing of grooved pivots
(repair of bearing surfaces).
Replacement of consumables such as weight lines
(but not mainsprings).
Any other minor remedial attention, that in my opinion is
required to return the clock to good working order.
